Free Water Ice

Yesterday being the first day of spring, Rita's Italian Ices was giving away free medium water ices to customers. On my way back from the dentist at 8 o'clock last night, I noticed our local Rita's was still open; when I got home Tab and I decided to take the boys out so we could each get one.

The boys were excited about staying up past their bedtime and the nighttime adventure. None of us had actually ever eaten water ices before, so it was a new experience for us all. We each picked a different variety, brought them home, and ate them at the kitchen table, passing them around so everyone could have a taste of the different flavors. Water ices are made from real fruit blended with ice, very cool and refreshing.

Dad and Bunny arrived here from Maine last night. They are staying in Nana's house and plan to help with some of the cleanup over there. It is a huge job, one that will take months to finally finish.

They stopped over today around noon. Stephen and Matthew were looking forward to their arrival all day. Bunny was surprised at how much more outgoing Matthew has become. He ran right up to her and gave her a big hug, chattering at her nonstop. They led her to the kitchen table to show her their artwork and beguiled her into coloring with them.

Dad lugged in a box containing all the Patrick O'Brian books, which he promised to lend me. I returned to him a book that I had borrowed from him last year. "Oh, great," Tab commented later. "You return one book and get twenty more--just what we need!"

Weather: A rainy, dreary day.

Reading: The Magician's Nephew, the next-to-last Narnia book, to the boys.

Watching: Sports Night.

One year ago: The weather didn't slow down Stephen and Matthew; if anything, they seemed invigorated by the cold.
