Boys at the Airshow

Yesterday afternoon Tab took Daniel to the annual airshow at McGuire Air Force Base. We have considered going to the airshow in the past, but the muggy weather of early June usually makes the prospect of standing out on hot, shadeless tarmac unappealing. Yesterday, however, the weather was perfect for an airshow, clear, breezy, and cool. I had to stay home to work on a project, but I told Tab he should go and take Daniel.

Tab and Daniel returned for dinner saying they had a great time. They saw skydivers floating to earth beneath billowing parachutes. They walked through a C-5A Galaxy, the largest cargo ship in the military. They looked at a Stealth bomber, which was guarded by unsmiling men with assault rifles. They watched the Thunderbirds perform a forty-five minute show overhead. Daniel's favorite part was when the Thunderbirds flew over the crowd, really low and really fast. Fortunately, Tab had brought along earplugs for both him and Daniel because the Thunderbirds were terribly loud.

Tab's father took him to an airshow when he was small, which Tab remembers fondly. He hopes Daniel will remember going to the airshow with him with the same fondness.

Conversation in the Car

"My penis is sticking up!" Matthew suddenly exclaimed.

"Well, don't keep touching it," advised Daniel, in big brother mode. "It will keep sticking up if you keep touching it."

"I'm going to stick my penis up to the sky!" said Matthew.

tree branch top

A little meta: This week's entries will be either short or sporadic, or both. I have a huge project due at the Press on Thursday, for which I'll need to put in several late nights of work.

One year ago: I realized that haiku offered both a new way of seeing and a means for capturing images and their associated feelings.
