What Snow?

Well, the forecasted blizzard never arrived, leaving the meteorologists looking foolish after their dire predictions of up to 2 feet of snow. On the strength of those predictions, all the local schools and many businesses were closed yesterday. Even the university, notoriously stingy with snow days, gave the day off to non-essential personnel.

"I resent that--I am so essential," joked Tab.

All told, we had less than two inches, not enough to go sledding, to the great disappointment of the boys. The boys' moods fluctuated more than the weather forecast. One minute the twins were affectionately hugging--"You're the best twin, Stephen!" "No, you're the best twin!"--and the next minute they were screaming at each other.

"Stephen won't let me color in his coloring book!" Matthew sobbed.

"Because you're not doing it right, Matthew!"

Meanwhile, Daniel was making matters worse by imitating Matthew's crying.

I was glad that school was back in session today.

Supposedly, shooting begins this month on A Beautiful Mind, the biography of Princeton mathematician John Forbes Nash. Ron Howard is directing, and Russell Crowe will star. Some of the scenes will be shot at the university.

"So, Tab, where do you the think the movie people will be staying? In town at the Nassau Inn?"

"Probably on Route 1; maybe the Hyatt."

"What about the actors?" I asked. "Where did Meg Ryan stay when they filmed I.Q.?"

"They put her in a private house in an undisclosed location, remember?"

"Oh, yeah. Maybe we should offer our house to Russell. Do you think he would mind sitting in the back seat of the minivan next to Daniel? I could drop both of you off in Princeton after we take the kids to school. Of course, since we don't have a guest room, he'd have to sleep on the couch...."

"Somehow I get the feeling that I would be the one on the couch," Tab said sourly.
