1/14/1999 Acceptable Risk10:31 p.m. Ice storm today. Kept Daniel home, although his school was among the very few that didn't close today. When I called, Pat said it was just as well, as it looked like only one out of the eight kids in kindergarten would be there. This will be a short entry: I have to be up by 5:30 a.m. and to Nana's to pick up Sarah by 5:50. Then we head up Route One to the Hyatt where Sarah will catch the Princeton Airporter shuttle to Newark Airport. I hope the car will not become too badly iced up over night and that the roads will not be as bad as I've heard predicted. Tab is annoyed by my act of altruism. "You're needlessly putting yourself in a dangerous situation, not to mention our only vehicle!" I wonder which risk worries him more. No, that's not fair. Still, as I told him, how else would Sarah get there? Taxis are notoriously unpredictable in this town. He himself once called a cab to take him to the train station, and it never arrived.
