2/12/1999 It's Over (Finally)The weather today is amazing! The temperatures reached nearly 70 deg. This is the middle of February? Unfortunately, it is not supposed to last. A cold front is expected to come through tonight, and tomorrow it will be 40 deg. colder. Today is the Valentine's party at Daniel's school. Last night he signed cards for his classmates. He has Star Wars Valentine's cards to give out. He picked which one he wanted to give to each person, plus one for Miss Dawn and one each for Miss Terri and Miss Carrie (his pre-K teachers). I suggested the Obi-Wan Kenobi card for Miss Dawn since Obi-Wan was Luke's teacher. The cupcakes I baked yesterday came out well, despite the fiasco of the missing oven control dial. I dropped off the cupcakes (white cake with pink strawberry icing and Necco conversation hearts on top) this morning. When I told Tab last week that I'd signed up to bake cupcakes for the party, he thought I was nuts and asked, "Why don't you just buy cookies?" I told him that it's fun to do the "mother" thing and bake treats for Daniel's class. Besides, cupcakes are a cinch to make with a cake mix. 12:45 p.m. Well, thank heavens that impeachment nonsense is finished. What an incredible waste of time and money for what was essentially a foregone conclusion. I had to laugh at the senior senator of our neighboring state, Arlen Spector (R). Yesterday he said he was going to vote "Not Proved," as they do in Scotland. Hello? You live in the United States, Senator, not Scotland. In the beginning of the impeachment process he was out to hang Clinton, but apparently changed his mind this weekend when saw that over 70 percent of the voters in Pennsylvania support the president, according to the most recent polls. Since he of course was not allowed to vote "Not Proved," he voted "Not Guilty." The other senator from Pennsylvania, Ric Santorum (R), stuck by his principles and voted "Guilty" on both counts even though he is up for re-election next year. I disagree with Santorum, but I can't help but respect him for not blowing with the winds of public opinion, the way his weather vane colleague did.
