W is for Whiner

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me,
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me,
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me,
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C!

--Cookie Monster
, Sesame Street

In the car on the way to Daniel's school, Matthew was singing, "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me..."

"Mama!" yelled Stephen.

"Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie..."

"What, Stephen?" I answered.

"...starts with C!"

"Stop singing, Matthew! Mama!"

"Oh, T is for tiger, that's good enough for me..."

"What do you want, Stephen?"

"T is for tiger..."

"I want to talk to you and Matthew keeps singing!"

"...good enough for me..."

"Stop it, Matthew!"

"You can talk while Matthew is singing. I can hear you just fine."

"Tiger, tiger, tiger starts with T!"

"No, I can't talk when he's singing!"

And then Daniel chimed in from the back seat, "W is for whiner, that's good enough for me." Tab and I both burst into laughter, much to Stephen's annoyance.

3:00 p.m. Matthew must have caught Stephen's cold. On our walk this morning he complained about his head hurting. His nose is runny, and he seems listless. I gave him some decongestant and tylenol and put them up for their naps early, at 12:30. He fell asleep right away. At 1:30 he woke up to go to the bathroom, but they must have gone right back to sleep. It sounds like the boys are waking up now. They don't always sleep during their daytime naps these days. Sometimes they play and talk from 1:30 until they fall asleep around 2:45. Then I have a tough time waking them up at 3:30 so we can go get Daniel. Yesterday, in fact, Matthew cried almost non-stop from the time I got him up until we arrived home after picking up Daniel, which makes my good mood of yesterday all the more surprising.
