3/18/1999 Thursday Reading: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. I'm tantalized by, but somewhat dubious of, her premise that anyone can learn to draw. I plan to work through the exercises. If I ever get the scanner working, I'll post some of my attempts. Weather: Absolutely gorgeous. Sunny and 70 deg. Very windy, though. The recycle truck was late this morning and the yellow recycle buckets lining the road were tipping over, sending empty cans and milk cartons blowing down the street. |
BusyI've written several entries this past week about Tab and his bad mood. For the past few days, though, Tab has been exceedingly sweet. I've joked with him that he's trying to make up for some of the less than stellar reviews of his behavior in this online version of my journal. Hmmm.... If I had known my words would have this effect when posted in a public forum, I would taken them public long ago. This will be a short entry, as I have a huge amount of work to do. The Prakash sample pages are finally back; I picked them up at the Press this morning. Gretchen wants the master pages tomorrow morning, so I know I'll be up late tonight finishing up the job. 10:15 p.m. Uncle Jim called earlier tonight while I was working. He said, "Since you are the writer in the family, we wondered if you would do something for us." I answered, "Sure, what's up?" He said, "Will you write Nana's obit." I sat there in dazed silence, wondering if Jim had chosen a peculiar means of conveying bad news. But no, he continued, saying that they are working out the funeral arrangements ahead of time, with Nana's cooperation. As morbid as that sounds, it is probably a good idea. Nana doesn't want to be here anymore. And one thing that still worries her is the funeral expenses. Perhaps knowing that everything is all arranged the way she wants it will give her some peace.
