Watching: A Bug's Life...again. This is the third time the boys have watched it since we bought it this week.

Night Light

I have another book due at the Press on Wednesday, and I am not quite finished with the corrections. It may mean another late night on Tuesday night; fortunately, this is a model book with no figures, tables, or other complicated textual elements. Once I've finished the corrections, it shouldn't take me too long to set the pages.

To give me time to work today, Tab took the boys out this morning on a yard sale expedition. Tab loves yard sales and will happily spend every Saturday morning in nice weather driving around looking for treasures. I went with him once; if I hadn't brought a book with me, I would have been bored silly. Tab is like a big kid himself when it comes to toys and he keeps pretty close track of retail prices, so he knows a bargain when he sees it. They returned victorious with sets of Duplos, Legos, and Lincoln Logs, and a few Sesame Street books. After a quick stop for a snack at home, he and the boys headed off to Veterans' Park. They walked along the paths--Daniel rode his training wheel bike--and then they visited the playground there.

Heard about CIH 1.2, also known as Chernobyl? It's a very destructive computer virus that is supposed to be activated this Monday, the thirteenth anniversary of the meltdown at Chernobyl. My virus protection is woefully out of date so this afternoon I downloaded Norton's freeware to manually detect and eradicate CIH. The thing took forever to run, but I'm happy to say my system was clean. I didn't think I'd have a problem because I'm pretty careful about attachments and diskettes from other computers, but better safe than sorry, especially since my computer is my livelihood.

9:30 p.m. Lately Stephen has been begging us to leave the hall light on at night. I guess it comforts him to see the line of light under the closed door. The twins have a nightlight in their room, but it is a phosphorescent one that emits only a dim, X-Files-green glow. Stephen and Matthew have been in bed for an hour now, and Tab just turned the hall light off after putting Daniel to bed. Stephen awakened, noticed the light was off, and started wailing until I turned it back on. I hope he gets past this phase soon.
