Watching: "Antiques Roadshow," one of our favorite programs, as I've mentioned before. One of the appraisers just informed a gun collector that three of his four guns were forgeries and the fourth, though original was also worthless because of its modern engraving.

Problems fixed? One of my readers informed me that the dark green color of my links was not obvious against the purple text color. I changed the color so that it would stand out. Hope this works better. If you are having trouble spotting a link, please let me know.

Tea with Daniel

Tab took the afternoon off so that he could stay home with the twins while I went to Daniel's school for a "Mother's Day Tea." We picked Tab up at 1 p.m., and stopped at Sam's Club for cat litter, paper towels, and a few other essentials. Then home, where I put the twins to bed for a nap.

I had some time to kill before I needed to leave to be at Daniel's school, so I sat down to catch up on email. Out of the blue, Tab asked, "Don't you think you should be getting ready?"

I said, "I was just finishing. I have plenty of time."

From there the conversation degenerated into an unpleasant, sniping sort of argument. Tab complains that I'm always in front of the computer. I counter that yes, I do spend a lot of time in front of the computer. After all, that is how I earn a living. And when I'm not working, if I choose to surf the web for awhile for relaxation, that should be my own business.

I don't criticize how he spends his limited leisure time, and I'd like to be accorded the same respect.

When Tab gets annoyed with his mother, a frequent occurrence as she is often exasperating, he speaks to her in a brusque, even harsh, manner. Occasionally, he'll use that tone with me, but I always call him on it. I don't deserve that kind of disrespectful treatment, and I won't put up with it. (For that matter, I don't think he should speak so to his mother, but that is between the two of them.)

I made the party with time to spare, as it turns out. I even dressed up for it: I wore my paisley skirt, purple chenille sweater, makeup, jewelry--the whole bit. Daniel seemed elated to see me. The kindergarteners each read something they had written about their mothers. Daniel read, "My mother is special because she loves me and takes care of me and lets me play on the computer."

"Tea" was reconstituted powdered ice tea in a punch bowl. The cookies were tasty, though. Then the kids presented their mothers with presents they had made: a large, colorful card and a paper bag painted with flowers that contained a decorated jar of bath salts and a popsicle-stick picture frame.

Conversation in the Car

As we drove past a construction site, Stephen remarked, "When I get bigger, I'm going to drive a front end loader. And you can ride with me, Mama!"

Daniel responded, "There's only room for one person in there. Mama will have to ride in the shovel."
