6/8/1999 Tuesday Reading: Back into Gotham until further notice. I'd taken a break from it while I was catching up on old Entertainment Weeklys that I uncovered--literally--while cleaning up the mess in our bedroom. In bloom: The Asiatic lilies in our back yard that Tab planted from bulbs years ago. He loves lilies. |
Wading Pool MorningIt was hot and humid again today. This morning, I filled the wading pool for the twins, changed them into bathing suits, and lathered them up with sunscreen. They had a blast playing in the water, especially after I put the end of their little plastic sliding board into the pool, creating their own water ride. They filled their dump truck and cement mixer with water and emptied them on the plants. I sat on our shaded back porch with my book and cup of ice water and watched them. In our neighborhood, the backyards are small and close together, divided by fences. From the porch, I can see into several yards on either side of us. The heat was keeping most people indoors, all except for Mr. Jerry, an older Polish neighbor a few doors down, who was working in his garden. It was a pleasant, low-key way to spend a hot morning. Fortunately, Lorraine's Hounds of Hell were not out in her yard barking at us. Whenever I started to feel hot sitting on the porch, I'd go down into the yard, walk around in the pool, and let the boys spray water on me. We even ate our lunch outside. Last night I finished sorting through the twins' bureau and the various boxes of kids clothes we had scattered around the house. The twins are mid-way between a size 3 and size 4, making it difficult to pare down their wardrobe. At least I was able to remove all their fall/winter clothes from their bureau for storage, as well as fill several boxes with size 2 clothes for my nephew. This afternoon, I tackled another project on my list: the entertainment center. The top surface was almost completely hidden by towering piles of videotapes, both pre-recorded tapes and ones we'd taped ourselves. Tab agreed that I could remove all his albums from the bottom shelf. Once those were gone--filling three large boxes!-I had enough room to store all the overflow tapes. The living room looks so much better without the clutter on top of the entertainment center .
Daniel finished his space station tonight. He proudly showed it to me, demonstrating how the gears move and the trap door opens. I'm still amazed at how quickly he put this contraption together.
