Shopping with the BoysThis morning was the first day of an L.L. Bean warehouse sale in Waterville. The five of us along with Mom drove to the sale, stopping at Governor's for breakfast on the way. The sale was held in a former department store center. The place was mobbed with bargain-hunters rooting through open boxes of footware and rack after rack of clothing. In retrospect, it was not really a good idea to bring the boys to the sale, particularly the twins, who complained incessantly about being tired and bored. As a matter of fact, I soon became tired and bored. It didn't help that I woke up with a headache that persisted all morning. Besides, I'm just not a shopper at heart. I did find a $30 pair of sandals for $12. I handed them off to Tab to include with his purchases, then I took the boys out for a walk through the shopping center. Next year we'll leave the boys at Nana's house. Or better yet, I'll stay home with them and let Tab and Mom go out to the sale together. Matthew has been a little more clingy than usual while we've been here. I suppose it is because he is out of his usual environment. Although he loves his Nana, he hates to see me leave the house without him. The other day when Tab and I went to Portland and Freeport, Matthew stood at the door, calling plaintively, "I'm going to miss you, Mama." "I'll miss you, too, honey. But we'll be back later, and I'll see you then." "I'm going to go cry, now," he announced and then ran off to the bathroom to do just that. We're trying work out the travel arrangements for getting the family here in Maine down to New Jersey in time for Nana's viewing on Sunday. Mom had thought she might be able to ride with Lori's family, but it turned out that they have a full car. So we've offered to take Mom down with us when we leave tomorrow. She may be able to ride back to Maine with my father and Bunny.
