Weather: Sunny but much cooler. I'm glad we went to the beach last weekend instead of this one.

Yard Sale Bonanza!

Tab took the boys out to hunt for yard sales this morning and came home with a carful of treasures. Among the things he bought today were:

A huge box of Tinkertoys $1.00
Two games, Trouble and Connect-4, with all the pieces $1.00 each
Two pairs of insulated winter gloves for the boys for when they get bigger 50 cents each
Hot Wheels Criss Cross Crash track plus eight Hot Wheels cars $1.00
Assorted Disney books 50 cents each
A Giro bike helmet $4.00
A 16-inch boy's bike in excellent condition $15
Three kites 25 cents each.

The bike helmet was a bargain, since it generally retails for $40.00. It fits Tab's head perfectly, and he needed a helmet. His best purchase today was the Criss Cross Crash track. Considering that this item sells for $39.99 at Toys R Us, this was an exceptionally good buy.

The boys certainly love their Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars and track. As the oldest, Daniel is in charge of setting up the track. In this small house we have a limited amount of floor space, but he comes up with ingenious arrangements. Sometimes he places one end of the track on his bookshelf and drapes it down to the floor, taking a sharp right turn out his door and a sharp left down the hall to our room. He also likes to run the track down the stairs and through the living room.

Stephen and Matthew are happy just to push the cars around on the uncarpeted floors. Matthew also likes to carry a little plastic case, which he fills with a dozen or more of his cars. He brings the case with him everywhere he goes, along with one of his stuffed animals.

So many of the kids' toys are things Tab has picked up at yard sales. He likes to browse the aisles of the toy stores and thus he has a pretty good idea of the going rate for most items. He can spot a good deal a mile away. As a matter of fact, he usually doesn't even have to get out of the car to know whether a particular yard sale is worth stopping at. Just a quick glance out the window is all it takes. He takes such delight in finding these treasures, I often think he's like a big kid himself.
