11/24/1999 Wednesday Watching: Planes, Trains & Automobiles, the best Thanksgiving movie ever. Also, The West Wing. Another good ep. Baking: Cranberry orange nut bread and pumpkin pie, again. |
Giving ThanksTomorrow will be a hectic blur of chopping and mixing, roasting and basting, and, of course, eating. At the dinner table tomorrow, we'll all say our traditional grace before the meal ("God is great, God is good, Let us thank God for our food"), and I will add a short prayer in which I give thanks for our blessings. But after all that work preparing the meal, I'm not sure I'll be thankful for anything other than the fact that my day's work is done. So right now, before I am worn to a frazzle and while I am feeling sincerely grateful, I want to give thanks for the people who have been blessings to me: For Tab, my husband, my partner, and my best friend, for all the love and laughter he's brought into my life. For my children, who have given me back my own childhood. For my mother, a shining exemplar of unconditional love. For my sisters, companions of my youth and friends for life. For my grandmother, who taught me how to enjoy life to the fullest. For my aunts, uncle, and cousins, who are my connection to Nana now that she is gone. For my childhood friend, for more than thirty years of friendship. For my closest female friend, to whom I can tell anything. I am truly blessed.
