And other denizens of the Tulgey Wood

Tab
My lover, my best friend, and my husband of ten years. He is a loving husband and father and a hard working man. I look forward to growing old with him. We have problems now and then, but we work through them. He is always able to make me laugh.

Daniel
My oldest son, born April 1993. He is bright, curious, and creative. Daniel's father is his favorite person in the world. He also loves me, his grandmothers, his cat Amber, his friends Danny and Patrick, Star Wars, and his Legos and K'nex. He tolerates his younger brothers. When he grows up he wants to be either an inventor or a veterinarian. Or he will combine his career goals and become "a veterinarian who invents a machine to help cats."

Matthew
One of my twin sons, born August 1995. Matthew is as attached to me as Daniel is to Tab. He is high-strung and nervous around new people, but loving and affectionate with those few he allows into his inner circle. He loves music and singing.

Stephen (nicknamed Reno)
My other twin son. Stephen has a sunny disposition and a beautiful smile. He greets everyone he meets with a friendly, "Hi!" and a grin. He is impulsive and often finds himself in trouble, but it is impossible to stay mad at him for long.

Stephanie
My mother-in-law. She was widowed in 1988 and Tab was her only child, so she is very close (sometimes too close) to us.

Mom and Jake
My mother and her husband, who live in Maine. It's hard living 500 miles away from Mom. She is a wonderful mother and a loving person, and I wish we lived closer to each other. We stay with them for a week every August, and they come to New Jersey several times a year to visit us.

Dad and Bunny
My father and his wife, who also live in Maine.

Nana
My grandmother, who died in August 1999. I love her and miss her very much.

Rita
My aunt, Nana's daughter and a former nurse, who lived with and cared for Nana in her final illness.

Sarah
My young adult cousin who lived with Nana and Rita for a few months.

Lorraine
Tab's cousin, our next-door neighbor, and owner of far too many dogs.

Lori
My sister, who is eleven months younger than me. She lives in Maine, is a special education teacher, and is the mother of four children and the foster mother of three.

Monica
My next sister, who is four years younger than me. She is a Maine state representative and has one daughter.

Susannah (nicknamed Suki)
My youngest sister, who is ten years younger than me. She also lives in Maine, is a certified nurse's aide, and is the mother of two.
